SUMMER 2020Design resilience

With open minds, we need to practice design that can address the changing conditions of contemporary world. Now, more than ever, we need to focus on creating solutions that are truly meaningful. Let’s get together to have real impact.

Pandemics, climate changes, economic breakdowns... One thing is certain - we live in uncertain times. We can either accept it or try to face it. How about going beyond sole survival? Resilience is the answer. This is how we can develop the abilities to react quickly and to adapt successfully. With open minds, we need to practice design that can address the changing conditions of contemporary world. Now, more than ever, we need to focus on creating solutions that are truly meaningful. Zuzanna Łąpieś

Designer, illustrator and educator.
GRADUATED FROM

In 2014, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw – Faculty of Design (MA). Laureate of Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Award for art school students for achievements in artistic work.

WORK EXPERIENCE

She runs a Presentation Techniques course in Department of Design Elements & Principles on the Specialization of Product and Visual Communication Design at her alma mater. She works with cultural institutions such as the National Museum in Warsaw and the National Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning as an exhibition designer. She works as an illustrator with the Military Unit GROM. She cooperated with Punch Punk Games Studio as an art director in production of “Apocalipsis” – an independent adventure game, available worldwide on most platforms, awarded for graphic design on ARS INDEPENDENT 2017 (official selection); DIGITAL DRAGONS 2018 INDIE SHOWCASE (finalist), KTR (finalist); AMAZE 2018 OFFICIAL POLISH SELECTION; ORDERY GRACZPOSPOLITEJ 2018 (award winner in categories: The Best Debut, The Best Independent Game and The Best Mobile Game), Central & Eastern European Game Awards (nominated in VISUAL ART category).

Gosia Rygalik

Designer, also active in the areas of education and culture.
GRADUATED FROM

She graduated from the Design Department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She also studied at Danmarks Designskole and gained her first professional design experience in Copenhagen. During the studies she was a member of the PG13 platform, a group of students implementing a wide spectrum of projects, as well as participating in numerous exhibitions, competitions and design workshops. Her MA studies were focused on food design. The relationship between design and food is an important field of her theoretical research as well as design practice

WORK EXPERIENCE

In 2009 she joined Studio Rygalik and in 2012 she became a partner at Studio. She is the author and the leader of 3D Design course at Akademeia High School. Co-creator of a creative campus Sobole and the president of Sobole foundation engaged in design and culture.

Tomek Rygalik

Designer, curator, and educator with a Ph.D.
GRADUATED FROM

He studied architecture at the Technical University of Lodz, and graduated in Industrial Design from the Pratt Institute in New York. After graduating from the Royal College of Art, he joined the RCA staff as a Research Associate.

WORK EXPERIENCE

In 2006 he established Studio Rygalik. He runs a design course at the Design Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He designs for companies including Moroso, Noti, Comforty, Paged, Ghidini, Cappellini, Profim, Ideal Standard, Siemens, Heineken and Ikea. Since 2010 he has also been creative director for leading Polish brands. He also works with cultural institutions, including The Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Polish National Opera, The Museum of the History of the Polish Jews, BOZAR, Zachęta, The Frederic Chopin Museum, The National Museum, and the Polish Culture Institute. He was the architect of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council. Many of his projects are presented in the permanent exhibition of the National Museum in Warsaw. In 2015 he established a brand TRE Product, and since 2016 he has been developing a creative campus SOBOLE.
